Difference Makers - Winter 2021
Christmas at The WellHouse has been particularly beautiful this year. As survivors work through their trauma, our volunteers are bringing support, companionship and yes…joy! For instance, Kelly Kirkland did an amazing job engaging the women in Christmas decorating. Our chapel is particularly gorgeous. We have loved welcoming worship teams from The Gathering Place and Trafficking Hope. They blessed the women with songs of peace. Verla Carr taught the ladies Come Thou Long Expected Jesus and they sound beautiful singing it. The wonderful women of Meadowbrook Baptist Church, led by the indomitable Maryanne Hollingshead gave us baskets full of handmade, beautiful (and oh so soft) knitted gifts. And while we are on the topic of gifts, I must tell you about Christmas Love.
When I handed each resident a blank Christmas list form, I must admit, I was a bit unsure. The list called for:
· Something I want
· Something I need
· Something to wear
· Something to read
This seemed like a simple enough process until I read the completed lists. Each person listed multiple (so many!) items for each category. Ever anxious, I wondered who in the world would be willing to fulfill this many Christmas lists? Were we asking for too much? I cannot say enough about the Christmas Love sponsors. They went over and above expectations. As they brought in their share of gifts, day after day, I was awed and humbled. Every woman at The WellHouse received Christmas Love wrapped up in red and green packages. They are not the only recipients, though.
You may have heard that we recently opened WellHouse Child, our home for minors who have been trafficked. Our incredible partners at Trafficking Hope are showering WellHouse Child with Christmas Love. Additionally, the great Penny Billings reached out to Bailey Brothers music on behalf of one very musical young lady. Thank you, Bailey Brothers, for donating a new guitar! May 2022 be filled with lots of lessons and music, music, music.
So many of you came out and supported our Christmas at The WellHouse. Some of you brought meals, while others shipped gifts across the country to the children of our residents. Some provided winter coats. Some prayed continuously (please don’t stop). All of you gave in your own way. If you were not mentioned above, please know your time and sacrifice was seen. You were seen by God and by the women of The WellHouse. Our hearts are full, and our spirit encouraged. What kindness! What grace! We are humbled by your generosity.
