Difference Makers - Fall 2020
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
What a beautiful reminder to approach this new season of life with purpose, and not forget how our joy is contagious. We love seeing your beautiful faces at The WellHouse, and we hope to see them more as the seasons change!
The past few months have brought some seasoned faces as well as new friends, and for that we are truly grateful. Recently we have had a group of dedicated volunteers transform our clothing storage area (affectionately named Elizabeth’s Closet) into a beautiful boutique atmosphere.
Led by the talented Terri Archer, a team of selfless volunteers cleaned and organized four seasons worth of clothing items by sorting, and categorizing them into a more manageable collection of clothing choices for our residents. Once complete, they turned Elizabeth’s Closet into a space of grace, peace and certainly--style!
Terri and her friend (and fellow volunteer) Mary Louise King also facilitated one of our resident’s quarterly Shopping Days! They had the opportunity to work with our residents individually to help them develop their personal style. Their joy was contagious and the results were magical!
We also recently welcomed a group from Church of the Highlands at an outdoor (socially distanced) ice cream social! Highlands members who are old friends of ours were in attendance and brought with them some new faces! Our residents had such a fun time getting to know everyone while sampling some yummy ice cream.
Last week, our ShopWell Resident Managers enjoyed getting the opportunity to learn new job skills that they can teach to the rest of the resident team! Volunteer Brittany Miller taught the residents how to use the computer program and cutting machine, Cricut, to design and automatically cut out materials for ShopWell products. The Cricut cutting machine will empower our residents to explore their creativity and come up with new paper products to sell in our online store, like greeting cards, fabric crafts, monogrammed swag, and more! Thank you, Brittany, for taking the time to teach our residents new skills!
And just this week, our friend Patti Joyner joined our ladies during ShopWell to teach them a new creative skill - leather belt bracelet making! Everyone had a blast learning something new and they created some gorgeous pieces that they can keep forever.
These are just a few examples of how our volunteers have served over the past few months, and hopefully give you an idea of how you and your groups can be involved. We would love to have you (or your group) join us to volunteer with our residents. If you are interested in volunteering with us but unsure what you can do, please reach out to me via email at jessica@the-wellhouse.org and I can help you determine the best place for you or your group.
